Tips for eMail MarketingFocus on One Message

If you’re sending non-newsletter email blasts, stick to one primary message for each email sent out. The more information you pack into an email, the higher the chance the recipient’s eyes will glaze over and they’ll reach for delete. Keep it to one focus point and put it right in the subject and first lines of the message to make it easier for those just skimming to absorb your message.

Email newsletters are expected to provide bits and pieces of several messages, so this tip doesn’t really apply to newsletters. But you should still keep your newsletter blurbs short and to the point, making the information easy to grasp.

Customize Your Message

Use the recipient’s name in your message whenever possible. Something as simple as customizing the email in this way can make the recipient more likely to read through and act on your message.

Include a Call to Action

Each email you send should spell out exactly what you want the recipient to do. Make links obvious and call attention to any special directions you are providing. And it’s okay to be repetitive when it comes to the call to action – include it toward the top of the message and mention it again at the end.

Use a Template

Instead of sending out a generic email, take time to customize your template to reflect the colors, fonts and other branding elements of your business. Using the same email template for your messages will help the recipient recognize your company and generate feelings of trust.

You’ll also want to provide a plain text version that contains the same message but is stripped of all special formatting for recipients using email clients that cannot view messages in HTML. And don’t forget to test out your final template in multiple email clients to make sure it looks how you want it to across the board.

Watch Your Stats

Most email marketing services provide campaign statistics so you can monitor the number of opens, clicks, bounces and unsubscribes. As you get started with email marketing, try a few different formats and link placements and then compare the stats to gauge your success.

And don’t be so quick to unsubscribe bounced addresses. An email can bounce for any number of reasons, and it’s best to wait to see if the address bounces more than once before scrubbing it from your list.

More on Increase Traffic.

Here is a simple list of SEO tips and tactics to help get more traffic and links to your website with some very simple and easy to follow steps.

Many people think that having a good website is all you need to get tons of visitors. Wrong answer. Getting traffic to your site takes hard work and diligence and is not accomplished overnight.

Think about it this way – how are people supposed to know where to find your site if you don’t tell them? You must advertise. Here are some proven ways to advertise your site without spending [much] money:

The order of these does NOT matter and will not affect how your site ranks or gets traffic if you decide to do these in a different order as to how I have listed them nor will missing any of these out affect your rankings or traffic. Remember though, the more work you put in the more traffic you will get as you submit to more sites by using these different SEO tactics for link and traffic building.

Usenet Groups:

Subscribe to the Usenet groups and advertise there. A good place to start is Google Groups

  • Be sure to submit your site in appropriate groups!
  • Be sure to sign up with a backup email or you will get onto every spammers database!
  • Be sure you don’t SPAM — only submit a write up of your site once to any given group.

Directory Submissions:

Submit your site to as many privately run Link Directories/Search Engines as you can find. These will not generally boost your traffic in any major way but will help to maintain steady stream of qualified visitors.

Text Advertising / Links:

Text links and advertising is very effective, but it will cost to have your advertisement put on any site so this is something you will need to set a budget for.

Banner Advertising:

Fixed banner advertising is always a good form of advertising and is said to be much better then text links. Use Banners with care, IE only on sites in same niche as you would with directories and link exchanges.

Social Networking:

Social networking such as YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and mega blogging sites. This should be used to give information and not used to advertise your site/company.

Reciprocal Linking:

Reciprocal linking is a good deal but you need to watch your link partners as some people are not as honest as the next, and will remove your link after a couple of weeks once you forget about it. For this reason I recommend using a link manager for all link exchanges just to be safe as these will check your reciprocal links for you.

Three way link exchanges are similar to reciprocal linking but between three sites not just you and another. Basically site A links to site B, site B links to site C and site C links to site A. This form of link building will also compliment your SEO campaign as well.

Banner exchange programs:

These don’t cost you a thing, but will lead to a few extra visitors. Plus, you’re spreading your brand all over the place on the other sites that are signed up to the same banner exchange programs.

Pay per click and/or Affiliate Marketing Programs:

Pay per click is as the name says, you pay each time someone clicks a link to your site on search engines and/or on other sites in sponsored link sections.

Affiliate marketing can be set to use either pay per click, pay per lead, pay per sale or pay per customer acquired and generally work the same as any other pay per click program.

Email Marketing:

This is sometimes taken as being spammy but as long as it’s not over used to spam thousands it should turn out ok.

Email marketing is cost effective and you can use it to send out information about special offers and new products etc, but be nice about it and don’t over use this sending to many emails out all the time.

Reviews:

Ask users/customers (depending on the site) to write a review for you, be it short or long it’s still a review and will help to show new visitors that your current client base likes how you run.

Do the odd review about your own company to get things started! Most if not all sites have done this in the past and will more than likely do it again in the future, but just make sure it looks like a real review and is only the trough!

Create your own RSS feeds or Atoms:

These are a great way to offer visitors the option to sign up to your sites news and/or update depending on how you set it up and what type of site you run.

The most important thing to remember is that you need to offer and provide good, strong content on your site for your visitors to want to come back and keep using your site, and for the search engines to see your site is worthy of the top listings.

If you want the list above to work and keep working you will need to follow these simple rules for your on site SEO tactics and keep your site fresh and up-to-date all the time.

Create good quality content that is helpful and useful to your visitors. If you just copy and paste information/content from others sites you will not get the traffic or visitors you’re looking for to stay with you as it will be old news they have all seen before.

Keep your sites and its content fresh. If you’re after repeat visitors that will want to keep coming back to your site time after time, you will need to keep not only the look and feel of your site fresh but also the content you put on it. This means you will want to do updates on your site as often as you can and keep your visitors informed on any changes.

Outsource article writing to keep the fresh content coming in. You should be able to get some quality articles/content written for you for about $5 each (based on 500 works per article and a minimum 10 article buy so that’s just $50 for 10 articles).

Your videos on your site as well as on others such as YouTube. Everyone likes to watch a video now and then because it’s easier then reading all the time. One thing you will want to remember is not to have your video on auto play as this can annoy some people.

Keyword Research

What is Keyword Research?

It is the process used by SEO Experts to find the relevant keywords entered by the users in the search engine box. They find and short-list those keywords that are most likely to bring targeted visitors to the website they are optimizing.

Types of Keywords

  1. Short Tail Keywords (comprising Two Words or Less)
  2. Long Tail Keywords (comprising Three Words or More)

Characteristics of Both Types of Keywords

  • Short Tail Keywords constitute roughly 30-35% of search volume
  • Long Tail Keywords constitute roughly 65-70% of search volume
  • Long Tail Keywords includes high volume generic phrases which includes various combinations and permutations of keywords.
  • The conversion rate for Long Tail Keywords is high.
  • Long Tail Keywords are extremely profitable.

Sometimes, people are under the misconception that having the most-searched, short keywords(two words)on their website will attract more traffic towards it. However, it must be understood that these ‘popular keywords’ make up for only one third of all searches.

Also, since most websites would want these keywords listed as part of their content, there would definitely be a lot more competition. Hence, the idea is to target the remaining two third (long keyword phrases)that would comprise very niche searches that extend to the wider spectrum of human thought.

There would probably be a lot less demand for these abstract searches but whenever they do happen, the majority of traffic would then be diverted to the website containing such random, impossible to predict keywords.

In order to successfully design a website and make it more relevant to searchers’ queries, it is essential to analyse the keyword demand of the target market. This helps a business to:

  1. Learn about which particular words and phrases to target,
  2. Understand the motivation of its target audience in almost every avenue,
  3. Predict the various changes in demand,
  4. Successfully respond and react to changing market trends, and
  5. Produce such products, content, and services that its consumers are looking for.

Keyword Research Tools

There are various tools available on the web. Some of them are:

  1. Google Adwords Keyword Tool
  2. Google Insights for Search,
  3. Google Trends to forecast the demand for keywords,
  4. Microsoft AdCenter, and
  5. Wordtracker’s tool to predict keyword demand.

SEO Update 2012

SEO Update 2012

SEO Update 2012 – What was working that’s not working anymore?

When it comes to SEO, we’re all interested in getting organic traffic from the major search engines like Google, Yahoo and Bing. But with Google leading the pack and making constant algorithm changes, it’s only a matter of time before it’s affecting you if you’re using old school methods to rank your website. One example was what many people refer to as the Panda epidemic which hit many websites in 2011, causing some major discussions to pop up in the internet marketing and SEO world.

The Panda update in 2011 was the algorithmic change made by Google to filter out “spam” websites and provide a better user experience for Google searchers. I know a lot of people thought “but my website is not spam” but was still affected, the reason for this might be the methods you were using to rank your sites. Older ways of generating backlinks, like the ones created by popular SEO programs like SeNuke X are just not effective anymore. A majority of links created with these mass backlinking software programs were de-indexed by the millions, causing a rapid drop in rankings.

One client site that was shown as an example, was a person who was ranking in the top 5 of Google for nearly 10 years for a very competitive keyword. When the Panda update hit, his page fell down to the 70th page. In a single day, his rankings went from #2 to #708 in the Google SERPS. That stopped his traffic completely and saw his website plummet to the ground.

So, how do we make sure the same thing doesn’t happen to us? Well, there are tons of ways to avoid this. Many people aren’t worried because their websites are still ranking and they think that they’re safe. But did you know that there’s been 2 major updates within the past 4 months since the Panda epidemic? A lot of these guys who thought they were safe were hit by one of the other updates which occurred in December 2011 and February 2012.

How to Avoid Getting Hit by an Algorithmic Change

Firstly, you need to make sure your website’s on-page SEO is properly configured. Getting a few courses on on-page SEO or hiring an SEO expert is highly recommended. The second thing you should do is to change your backlink strategy and avoid programs like SeNuke X like the plague. SeNuke X used to be a very effective way to rank a website and build thousands of links in no time, but Google is onto them and de-indexing any page that they catch using services like these.

There are many professional SEO companies out there who have a solid reputation and keep up to date with any changes made by Google’s ranking system. Although some of these services can be rather expensive, you might want to invest some of your money here rather than trying to do it yourself, since that can be your downfall.
